The MIA validation workshop in Cairo was organized jointly with UNIDO and the MIA national teams of Yemen and Egypt. The objectives of the workshop include:

• Discussing the Minamata Convention in the context of the other chemicals and waste management Conventions
• Presenting institutional reforms undertaken in Egypt to implement the chemicals and waste Conventions
• Finalizing The Yemen MIA document
• Discussing specific regulations and requirements of the Minamata Convention regarding the reduction and control of emissions from point sources
• Sharing Egypt's experience regarding the regulation of the cement sector
• Addressing the Minamata regulation on mercury trade
• Discussing the requirements of the Minamata Convention regarding the management of mercury added products
• Highlighting the aspect of mercury waste management under the Minamata and the Basel Conventions
