Overview: Mercury in Armenia can be found in common household devices and products. The Ratification Dossier Project was implemented in 2015-2017 by the Ministry of Nature Protection. For this project, Armenia listed an inventory of mercury containing wastes and main sources of mercury. This document also includes priority areas of action; identifies lack in the legislation regulating mercury export/ and import, establishes a legislation for eliminating mercury-added products and emissions of mercury, elaborates a legislation and requirements on environmentally sound temporary storage of mercury and mercury compounds pending use or disposal and prepares a National Action Plan for controlling mercury releases. An assessment of existing legislations and proposed actions on legal reforms based on the Articles of the Minamata Convention was undertaken. Researchers from the Center for Ecological-Noosphere Studies of the National Academy of Sciences also prepared a review called “Mercury as a Risk Factor in the Republic of Armenia” to describe the mercury-related situation in Armenia.
