Overview: In Guinea, mercury is informally used in the gold mining sector (industrial and artisanal). In 2003, a project was launched to develop an inventory of mercury emissions; however, it was not concluded because of the lack of funding. Recently, the Government established a national coordinating committee to monitor the management of chemicals and promote local governance, education, information dissemination and training dedicated to miners. The population is 8,746,128 people.
