Minamata Initial Assessment regional inception workshop

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and World Health Organization (WHO), is organizing a regional inception workshop for the Minamata Initial Assessment project. The workshop will be held on 11 July 2016 in Barcelona, Spain and will be conducted in English with translation in French.

The overall goal of the workshop is to provide a foundation to the participating countries for the development of their Minamata Initial Assessment. The objectives of the workshop are: 

  • Introduction of the Minamata Initial Assessment (MIA) project;
  • Discussion of the key project components:
    • Establishing a national steering committee 
    • Review of legal framework 
    • Compilation of a national mercury inventory 
    • Awareness raising 
  • Finalizing the work plan for the MIA project; 
  • Promoting information exchange and cooperation.
